Leaf Identification

With a bit of a windstorm last night, and a beautiful, sunny day today, it was a great time to get outside and look at the leaves.  We began by looking at a leaf identification sheet and learning about the different shapes of leaves, and their margins (the edge of the leaf).

We then headed outside to our special outdoor learning spot.

Of course, when we got there, the leaves had fallen EVERYWHERE, and we had to take a few minutes for some fun!

We then continued to look around for examples of the different shaped leaves (oval, linear, and lobed) and the different margins (smooth, scalloped, and toothed).  Once we collected our samples, we sat and matched the leaves to the identification sheet.

We came back in the classroom and chose some of the leaves to press in our books.  Hopefully they will press well so that we can glue them in our books!
